Learn by my experience, Powermen
Recently I went to Tralee, Co.Kerry, Ireland, to shoot images for the Eirgrid annual report. It was a dark, wet day but I needed sunshine to show the size of the twin pole power line . When the engineers drove from Cork to meet me , they were slowed down by the amount of rain on the highway. For the shot , I wanted 10 minutes of sunshine. In November the little sunshine we gets is very contrasty. So I lit the image with a Bowens pioneer portable lighting kit. We used a quantum radio trigger to link the camera and light. I shot on a Canon 5d mk 11 shooting in raw. As I set up the shot we had a shower of rain. But I had faith. I saw a patch of blue in the sky. I set up the shot. And we got a few minutes of sunshine. Ten minutes later on my way back to Galway the road turned white with a hail storm. As a photographer, flyer and sailor, I think I know my weather. I had looked at the weather charts before the shoot and had promised my clients that we would get our image, we did. |
